The Board of Certified Haircolorists (BCH) is a professional, 501C(6) non-profit organization committed to advancing the art, science, and credibility of professional haircolorist. We set the gold standard in knowledge, technical skill, and professional integrity, ensuring that certified haircolorists can deliver exceptional results grounded in proven expertise.
BCH was established to provide an international voluntary certification assessment that validates advanced haircolor mastery beyond basic licensure or certification. This assessment is designed to create standardized criteria for certification, promote consistent quality, and establish a higher level of professionalism for the benefit of both the haircolorist and the consumer.
As a non-manufacturer based organization, BCH presents content, information, and best practices that are universally applicable to all haircolor lines. Our education and certification are designed to enhance a professional’s capabilities regardless of brand affiliation, ensuring relevance and adaptability across the entire industry.

- International Certification: Our multi-phase, legally defensible certification process challenges haircolorists to demonstrate both technical skill and theoretical knowledge in real-world conditions.
- Apprenticeship Integration: In partnership with the U.S. Department of Labor’s Registered Apprenticeship system, BCH offers a competency-based apprenticeship designed as an advanced upskilling pathway for licensed or certified cosmetologists, hairdressers, and chemical barbers. This earn-while-you-learn model focuses on elevating technical proficiency in haircolor to meet the rigorous standards required for BCH certification.
- Ongoing Education: Our educational resources, including ColorCraft: Advanced Haircolor Foundations, live events, and mentorship programs, ensure professionals can continue to grow and adapt to the evolving beauty industry.
